India has no single minimum wage. Each state sets its own rates by skill level, industry and zone, and these are what employers must pay. The national floor level of ₹178 a day is a guide for states and is not binding.

The Code on Wages, in force since 21 November 2025, covers every employee, not only listed industries, and lets the central government set a statutory floor wage that no state can go below. That floor had not been notified when we checked. Most states revise their rates in April and October for inflation.

The statutory floor wage under the Code on Wages is still to be notified. State rates change twice a year with the cost of living.
