- 2 Enter the amount.
- 3 Pick a rate, choose a country, or type your own rate.
- 4 Read the net price, the tax, and the total, and copy the share link if you need it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the price by the VAT rate and divide by 100 to get the VAT, then add it to the price. With 20% VAT, 100 becomes 100 + 20 = 120. A shortcut is to multiply by 1.2.
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the price by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. With 20% VAT, 120 ÷ 1.2 = 100, so the VAT was 20. With 15% VAT, divide by 1.15.
Why can’t I just take 20% off to remove 20% VAT?
Because VAT is worked out on the price before tax, not on the total. Taking 20% off 120 gives 96, but the price before VAT was 100. The VAT part of a price with 20% VAT is 1/6 of it, not 1/5.
What is the difference between VAT and GST?
They are the same kind of tax: a tax on goods and services that each business in the chain collects and passes on. The UK, the EU, Bangladesh, and the UAE call it VAT; India, Australia, Canada, and Singapore call it GST. The math is the same.
How is GST split into CGST and SGST in India?
For a sale within one state, the GST is shared equally between the central government (CGST) and the state (SGST), so 18% GST is 9% CGST plus 9% SGST. For a sale between states, the whole amount is IGST.
How up to date are the rates?
The country rates were last checked in October 2026. Governments change them in their budgets, so check the official rate for anything important. You can always type a rate yourself.
