Webcam Test
Check that your camera works and see its real resolution, frame rate and highest quality. Switch cameras, mirror the picture and save a snapshot. Nothing is uploaded; the picture stays on your device.
Getting ready for a call? Also run the Mic Test. To record yourself, use the Screen Recorder in camera-only mode.
About the Webcam Test
The webcam test turns on your camera and shows the live picture with its real resolution and measured frame rate, so you know what others see on video calls. Try 4K, 1080p or 720p to find what the camera can really do, switch between cameras, mirror the picture, and save snapshots. The picture stays in your browser and is never uploaded.
How to use it
- 1 Press “Test my camera” and allow access when the browser asks.
- 2 Check the resolution and frame rate shown on the picture and in Camera details.
- 3 Pick a quality such as “Try 1080p” to see the most your camera supports.
- 4 Take a snapshot and click it to download a PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my webcam not working?
Usually the browser has no permission, another app is using the camera, or a privacy shutter or key turns it off. Allow the camera from the icon in the address bar, close Zoom, Teams, Skype or OBS, and check for a sliding cover or a camera key on a laptop.
How do I check my webcam resolution?
Start the test and read the resolution on the picture, such as 1280 × 720 (HD) or 1920 × 1080 (Full HD). Pick “Try 1080p” or “Try 4K”: if the number doesn’t rise, the camera doesn’t support it. “Highest resolution” shows the maximum where the browser reports it.
Why is my webcam frame rate low?
Low light is the main cause: cameras slow down to let in more light, often to 15 fps. Add light in front of you. A busy USB hub, an old cable, or a high resolution on a slow computer can lower it too.
Why is my picture mirrored?
Previews are mirrored by default so moving feels natural, like a mirror. Others on a call see you the right way round. Use the Mirror button to see the unmirrored picture, which is how snapshots look with mirror off.
Is the video recorded or sent anywhere?
No. The video is shown straight from the camera to the page and never leaves your device. Snapshots are kept in your browser until you download them or leave the page.
Can I test my phone camera?
Yes. Open the page on your phone and allow the camera. If the phone has front and back cameras, choose between them in the camera list.
